As you (should) know, I am a huge advocate of amplifying adoptee voices above all the noise. Thus, it only makes sense that I practice what I preach. I am launching a guest post series on my blog where once a month, I will feature a story written by another adoptee. This is open to ALL adoptees, transracial or same race. If you are an adoptee or know someone who is, please read the guidelines below and submit your story for review.
Send all submissions to SubmissionToOBG@gmail.com for consideration
Your story can be about anything you want short of hate speech. Be familiar with the tone of OnlyBlackGirl and go from there. This could be a biography, a rant, a shout out, a thought, a word of encouragement, something you’re struggling with, an open letter, anything. I want this to be a platform for adoptees to get whatever they need off their chest. It does not need to be directly related to adoption, I cover a lot of social issues on this blog and you are welcome to do the same.
All content must be original from you. No plagiarism, anything quoted needs to have a source.
Post length should be anywhere between 300-500 words. If you need a little more to get your point out, that is fine. We just cannot post novels (you should write a book though).
Please submit in a Word document, double spaced and 12 point font.
Please do your best to review for grammar and spelling mistakes.
Must submit a short 3-4 sentence writer’s bio just informing readers a little bit about yourself.
Submit a profile photo to be posted with your author bio. Nothing inappropriate, and it must show your face.
Any social media or website to your personal work you would like to promote.
Once you submit, I will review and let you know if your submission is chosen for that month. If you are not chosen for that month, don’t fret, I will keep it stored for an upcoming month. I will always notify you before posting.
I will be review and edit all submissions and may add photos or relevant links for content clarity.
When the post goes live, I will send you a confirmation email and a link to the blog post so you can read and share on your own platforms.
